It takes some getting used to but Anki is an unusual and original way of learning that may work better for some than others.

Please note that Anki apps on other platforms are developed by different groups. Most interestingly, Anki offers a 'Study online' option, which allows you to share sets of cards with others and sync your cards on multiple computers. Starting from July 2017, you can sync your progress across all versions on iOS, Android, Mac, and Linux by using the free sync service of AnkiWeb. You can also add your own cards including sounds and images and there's extra special support for Japanese characters. Based on your answer, Anki will then display the question again anytime over the next few weeks and the more accurate your answers, the less you'll see the card - until you've remembered it off by heart. But the program scores where it matters: the core technology is excellent, it's enormously configurable, and there are lots of shared decks and add-ons to explore.This main window of Anki displays a question and answer and asks you to rate how well you remembered the answer. This could be simple text - a deck on capital cities might use "France", "Paris" - but Anki also supports graphics, audio, video, even scientific markup (via LaTeX), so there's plenty of scope to be inventive. Each card has a question on one side, its answer on the other. The program allows you to create, download and edit flashcards. Anki is an open source study aid which can help you remember just about anything.
